How to prevent a measles outbreak in rural India
The first case of measles has been confirmed in the state of Bihar, which has been plagued by an outbreak since March.
The first case has been reported in Bihar’s capital city of Patna and in neighbouring Jharkhand, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
A case was confirmed in Jhara village, the first of the six identified in the district, on Tuesday.
The rest were reported in Patna, Khandwa, Ujjain, Bijnor, Udupi and Guwahati, the CDC said.
The vaccine can be given to people in India at the age of 12.
The country has been under a state of emergency for over two months following a spate of cases.
Since then, a total of 745 cases of measles have been reported.
