Zipline clinics have been popping up across Australia, with some seeing a boost in demand after the federal government announced the rollout of the $1.5 billion program.
However, the Ziplines are not just for animals, they are also for people with mental health issues.
The program was announced in October last year as a way to help people who are experiencing severe mental health problems or who are struggling to access healthcare.
But while the new clinics may be appealing to people with a mental health issue, the government’s own report into the program found that the ziplines do not meet the criteria for a national emergency, meaning they can’t be used for urgent medical care.
In a statement, the Department of Health said the government is “continuing to work with local and regional authorities to develop appropriate arrangements to allow the new services to operate safely and securely”.
“The department is committed to working with the community to ensure that the program is able to meet the needs of all Australians and that its use is safe,” the statement said.
“The Department will continue to provide updates on its plans to manage the program.”
